Hotel More (Dubrovnik, Croatia)

I can’t take credit for choosing the Hotel More in Dubrovnik, as my uncle picked it for our trip to Croatia last summer. But oh my gosh, I’m so glad he did. The Hotel More in Dubrovnik, Croatia was everything we could have wanted and…well… more!

Location, Location, Location.

Hotel More’s Location in Dubrovnik

Located in the slightly more suburban area of Lapad (just north of old town), Hotel More is about a 15-minute bus ride directly from the Old Town main gate, plus a 10-minute walk. It’s actually a lovely walk, where you stroll the coastline of Lapad and pass lots of little shops and restaurants on the way to the hotel.

Walking from the hotel to the bus stop to take us into the Old Town.

You’ll likely arrive at the hotel by street, though, if you come by taxi and you actually arrive at the top of the hotel in the lobby. The hotel offers a pre-booked airport transfer service (for a charge), and we arranged for a minivan to pick us up from the airport and bring us directly to the hotel. The driver was on time, professional and very kind. Nika, the hotel concierge who helped me arrange the transfer and our dinner plans, recommended that we use the minivan since we were 4 adults with 4 big bags.

The hotel is built into a cliffside, so it doesn’t look like much of anything from the street. But once you enter the lobby, the floor-to-ceiling windows show the beautiful coastline behind you and you’re immediately transported into vacation mode.

Arriving at Hotel More in Dubrovnik

The bellmen were really helpful and sweet, and the front desk/reception folks were friendly and professional. We got our room keys and set off in search of our rooms.

Hotel More is two hotels in one, kind of. There are two buildings, connected by a footbridge/hallway between the two. Each building has a main restaurant, and there is a pool, too. The main draw of the hotel is the Restaurant Tramontana and the Cave Bar More. It’s a bit difficult to navigate at first, as certain elevators don’t go to all floors, but once we found our way, everything made a little more sense.

The hotel’s location and amenities were amazing.

Excellent Seaside Amenities

There was a sparrow’s nest in the eaves above the hallway and the grounds of the hotel are beautiful. It’s lush with foliage and flowers. The cliffside hotel takes advantage of its prime location, with views from every room and even views from window-lined hallways. The windows in the hallways opened to let in the sea breeze. Hotel More is unmistakably a coastal retreat in Dubrovnik. It kind of reminded me of how relaxing the Hilton in Malta was on our honeymoon – it really feels like a respite in what can be a very touristy destination.

The Rooms at Hotel More

Part of our room – the comfy bed!

Our rooms at the hotel were just what we needed: a comfortable bed, a nice, clean bathroom. Nice sitting area. Good view with a balcony. Great air conditioning!

Cave Bar More

Cave Bar More deserves its own post. However, I’ll tease a little bit here.

This was by far the best part of the hotel, other than the comfortable rooms and the restaurant. Cave Bar More is a fantastic retreat from the hot, sticky streets of Old Town, and the perfect place to relax post-sightseeing for an afternoon swim, sunbathing lazily on a daybed, and grabbing an aperitivo and snack.

Dinner at Restaurant Tramuntana

We celebrated my aunt’s birthday in style!

We had dinner at Restaurant Tramuntana to celebrate my aunt’s birthday and it was exquisite. The restaurant was pretty fancy – white tablecloths, attentive servers, and low music.

Sunset from Hotel More Dubrovnik's Restaurant More
We watched the sailboats at sunset from our table.

It was also one of our priciest meals we had while in Croatia, but the setting (outside on the terrace where we could watch the sunset over the Adriatic) was sublime. Our server spoke English well and he was very kind, taking the time to explain what certain dishes were.

Because I emailed in advance with Nika, the restaurant knew it was my aunt’s birthday and surprised us with a welcome toast of champagne. It certainly made the evening even more special, to toast with champagne as we watched the sunset. These are the types of moments that make travel so special and memorable.

If you clinked glasses and you didn’t take a Boomerang of it, did you even toast?

Excellent Breakfast Buffet

I was so tempted to call this breakfast “egg-celent,” but I didn’t. Or, did I just? 😉

We ate too fast to photograph our food! Sorry!

The hotel’s buffet breakfast is served at Restaurant Tramuntana. The spread is pretty amazing, and breakfast includes beverages like coffee, bloody marys, sparkling wine, and mimosas.

Not a bad view to accompany your omelette, is it?

We sat outside on the large terrace and enjoyed the light breeze coming off the sea as we tucked into our flakey croissants and fluffy eggs.
